MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

This year’s parade theme, “Patriotic Songs” provides creative inspiration for floats and banners and encourages more musicians and bands to join in than last year.  Parade chairman Russ Henze and his Parade Committee have devoted countless hours to creating a must-see spectacle of bands, cars, floats, marchers and other displays dedicated to showcasing our remembrance and gratitude owed to our veterans and our service men and women.

The parade will begin on Monday, May 27th at 10 a.m. sharp at Augustus Lutheran Church in Trappe, and will continue down Main Street to First Avenue.  It will end at noon at Waterworks Park.  Volunteers will hand out flags and programs to the spectators along the route.  Children and families will enjoy giveaways from the parade participants and also at the parade’s end at Waterworks Park.

If you are watching the parade, bring your lawn chair to any shady spot along Main Street in Trappe from 7th Avenue down to First Avenue.  Plenty of great viewing spots are available!

The parade will include about 60 floats, bands, including our own PV High School band, and representation from the Keystone Grange, the 4-H Club, Boy Scouts, antique cars, horses, civic and youth groups, bike brigades, neighborhood community groups, police and fire engines, and as always, quite a few surprises.  A number of armed forces and military groups will be represented, including the Gold Star Mothers, who have a son or daughter serving in the military, and the Blue Star Mothers, who have lost a son or daughter.  Several motorcycle and other groups will be riding in tribute to our military, including the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education, Warrior Watch and the Keystone Wounded Warriors.

At the end of the parade, viewers should join the parade behind the EMS vehicle and walk to Waterworks Park for a short Memorial Day Observance led by Pastor Martha Kriebel of Trinity Church.  The Observance will feature three buglers, a ceremonial flag raising, a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” led by the Philadelphia German Brass Band, who will also perform a short concert at the end of the service.

At the parade’s end, lunch and snacks will be available from a number of food stands.

Cabin Fever Relievers in Valley Forge and Montgomery County

Published: 2012-12-21

Winter shouldn’t put your pursuit of fun on ice. In southeastern Pennsylvania, a cool mix of recreation, history and one-of-a-kind museums blows in with the cold air. So, before you go stir crazy waiting for spring, visit Valley Forge and Montgomery County, Pa., to bust up those winter blues.

Spring Mountain Adventures, near Schwenksville, is the closest ski area to Philadelphia, south Jersey and Delaware and offers the least expensive lift tickets around. Eight trails, four lifts, two snow tubing runs, a terrain park, and a half-pipe ensure endless enjoyment in the snow, and zip-line canopy tours are available year-round. And now, you can stay over at the newly remodeled Woodside Lodge, a 1920s-era nine-room country manor.

Green Lane Park, in Green Lane, offers outdoor faves like ice skating, sledding, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing. The scenic trails are open for walking, hiking and jogging, perfect cures for the cold weather blahs and a healthy way to stick to that resolution to trim a few pounds.

Another local choice for cross-country skiing is the iconic, 3,500-acre Valley Forge National Historical Park. Kids aged 6–12 can burn some pent-up energy by “enlisting” in the Continental Army on certain dates in January, February and March. Here, they receive enlistment papers, copies of Continental currency, and wooden muskets to drill the same way as Washington’s soldiers.

Rock climbing at Philadelphia Rock Gym in Oaks lets you reach your peak, build confidence, make new friends, stay active and have fun all at the same time. It’s one of the first indoor climbing facilities in the U.S.and offers programs for all ages and abilities.

Happy New Year everyone!!

If anyone is in need of a bag to remove your Christmas tree, we still have some leftover from last year. Come to the Leasing Office and grab one while supplies last, or let us know and we'll put one on your doorknob.

We will keep you up to date on the option to bank online. We hope to have Spruce Court set up soon!

Thank you.
